Love hotels is the English word for Rendez-vous hotels and finds its arise around 1912 when in the harbor of Antwerp the port-workers still passed the stevedoring with their own hands. This was a very hard job and in that time the gin-ladies server fine ‘Jenever’ to these men. After work they usually continued drinking and so they often made an appointment with one of the ladies (the so called rendez-vous) in an hotel. These appointments should pass discretely in the port area so small rendez-vous hotels were built on discrete spots.

Because in that time French was the leading language the name of these hotels was quickly settles as the rendez-vous, and until today the name has not changed.
